Custom Designing Business Logos For Construction Companies
The construction sector is very competitive indeed. More prominent firms handle the bigger development jobs while smaller and newer ones must make evident their quality with various subcontracts before moving on to bigger projects.
My design company has just been tabled an assignment to produce a new construction logo design for a local construction company. To start things off, the art director and I made a visit to our client’s office for a brief interview session to find out more about the company.
Like many other companies we have interviewed, most companies realize they need a new outlook to help them compete but are not really sure what they want. That is where we come in.
Before embarking on the logo design, we usually inquire about the history of the company, its turnover, its goals, its specialty, its target market and exactly why it wants a new construction logo design; just to get a better feel of things.
We determined that they are a relatively young organization, 8 years in the business with 4 large subcontract projects and many minor ones under their belts, each one bigger than the last. They are now seeking to adopt a blue ocean strategy and venture into eco-friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with hardly any competitors - and consequently taking the opportunity to build a reputation for themselves as one of the few firms to engage this niche.
From the meeting, we can gather that they have the needed resources to take on medium scale development projects. Their chosen niche also makes it easier to differentiate them from other developers.
At our agency, we had a little brainstorming session and and decided on the conceptual direction. From there we designated 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo samples to turn those concepts to logo designs.
After a few days, the initial designs were ready for show. Some designs employed the use of stylized text while others made use of construction related graphics like hammers and bricks to get the point across. Although all 4 construction logo design samples were unique in their own way, they all stuck to 2 primary points.
Professionalism
Developers deal with major projects. To qualify for such projects, they must always be viewed as a professional and responsible corporate citizen with excellent business ethics. Hence, the clean and clear designs reflected that appropriately.
Eco-Friendliness
This is the niche this company is determined to penetrate. Obviously, the designs, either by color or graphics, further impresses the company’s commitment to the preservation of the environment.
Finally it is up to our clients to choose the design the prefer. Alternatively they can make minor changes but as professional designers, we must make certain the design ultimately keeps to the key points noted earlier.
